That chair your grandmother left you doesn't have to become a coat rack.
We breathe new life into the furniture you love — the one with the story, the memories, the dents that prove it was lived in. Not everything beautiful deserves to be replaced. Some things just need us.
Upholstery services that treat your furniture like family
From a single dining chair to a full living room suite — we handle it all with the same care we'd give our own home.
Full Reupholstery
Complete fabric replacement — from frame to finish. We strip, repair, rebind, and re-cover so your piece looks and feels like it just came off the showroom floor.
Antique Restoration
Period-appropriate materials and techniques for antique and vintage pieces. We honor the craftsmanship of the past while making your heirloom usable again.
Auto & Boat Interiors
Car seats, boat cushions, convertible tops, and van interiors. Custom-shaped foam, matching original patterns, or a complete style upgrade.
Commercial Projects
Restaurant booths, office chairs, hotel furniture, and more. Bulk pricing available for business owners who need quality work without the markup.
Residential Furniture
Sofas, recliners, dining chairs, headboards, and ottomans. If it has cushions, we can fix them. Bring us the piece you thought was gone forever.
Foam & Spring Repair
Sagging seats, broken springs, worn padding — the hidden problems that make furniture uncomfortable. We rebuild the support, not just the cover.
Three generations. One shop. Same standard.
In the 1950s, the founder of 3rd Generation Upholstery set up a small bench in Marshalltown and started stitching. His son took over in the '80s, expanding the shop and adding auto interiors. Now the third generation carries the name — and the same stubborn commitment to doing it right.
We're not a franchise. We don't outsource to a warehouse. Every piece that comes through our door on East Main Street gets handled by hands that know why a tight webbing job matters, why the grain of the wood should show, and why a customer's dining chairs should feel like the first time they sat down for Sunday dinner.
Before, after, and everything in between
Every piece tells a story. Here are a few of our favorites from the shop floor.

We've been serving Marshalltown and the surrounding communities for generations. Here's what some of them have shared.
I brought in my grandmother's rocking chair — the one she'd had since she was a young mother. I thought it was beyond saving. They restored it so perfectly that my mom cried when she saw it. I'm so grateful.
We use them for all our restaurant booth reupholstery. Consistent quality, fair pricing, and they always meet the timeline. When you're running a business, that matters.
Had my '67 Mustang seats done and they looked factory-fresh. The attention to detail was incredible — stitching, contours, everything. These guys really know their craft.
